NRM Ramps Up Final Campaign Push in Kalangala as Namayanja Joins Trail, Museveni Rally Set for Monday

KALANGALA: The National Resistance Movement has intensified its final phase of campaigning for the Kalangala District Woman MP by-election, with Deputy Secretary General Rt. Hon. Rose Namayanja Nsereko joining the trail Thursday as the party prepares to host President Yoweri Museveni for a grand rally on Monday, June 22.

Addressing journalists before campaign activities across the island district, Namayanja expressed confidence in NRM flag bearer Idah Nabayiga’s prospects, citing strong grassroots mobilization and cohesion within party structures.

“We are here to appreciate the people of Kalangala and the NRM leadership from district to village level for the tremendous work done during this campaign. The grassroots mobilization strategies led by our ministers and party officials have significantly strengthened our support across the district,” she said.

With polling day set for June 24, Namayanja said the campaign had entered its last phase, focused on village-level mobilization ahead of the President’s rally.

“We are making final touches to ensure all villages are covered and supporters are fully mobilized for the President’s rally on June 22. After that, our focus will shift to vote protection to ensure every supporter turns up and casts their vote,” she said.

The Deputy Secretary General revealed the party had developed a vote protection plan involving deployment of agents to all 115 polling stations to safeguard ballots and voter turnout.

She urged residents to elect NRM leaders, arguing that alignment with the ruling party would improve the district’s capacity to lobby for government programs under the NRM manifesto.

“The NRM has a manifesto that will guide government programs throughout this term. For Kalangala to fully benefit, there must be unity of purpose among leaders to effectively lobby for the priorities in the manifesto,” Namayanja said.

She dismissed opposition claims of planned rigging as “a sign of panic ahead of defeat,” noting similar allegations in past polls did not alter NRM’s grassroots-backed victories.

Namayanja credited the party’s confidence to its network of village committees, youth leaders, women leaders, and elders actively mobilizing for Nabayiga. She also commended Kalangala NRM leaders for maintaining unity, which she said bolstered the party’s chances.

President Museveni’s Monday rally is expected to be the climax of the NRM campaign in Kalangala, with party leaders optimistic it will consolidate support for Nabayiga ahead of the June 24 by-election.
