KAMPALA, Uganda: State Minister for Gender and Culture, Hon. Mary Kamuli Kuteesa Abwooli, has called on Parliament to formally appreciate President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for his leadership in maintaining Uganda’s national security architecture.
Speaking during plenary, Kamuli said it was “in order for the august House” to acknowledge the President’s unwavering stewardship of the country’s defense and security institutions.
She also commended the gallant men and women in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces and other security agencies for their role in keeping citizens safe.
“It is in order for the august House to appreciate President @KagutaMuseveni for his unwavering stewardship of national security architecture and gallant men and women in the forces that keep the citizens safe,” Kamuli told legislators.
The Minister noted that sustained peace and stability have enabled government programs on gender equality, culture, and community development to take root across the country. She added that a secure environment remains critical for women, children, and vulnerable groups to participate meaningfully in social and economic activities.
Kamuli’s remarks come amid ongoing debates in Parliament on security, governance, and service delivery. She emphasized that national security should be viewed not only through a military lens, but also as a foundation for protecting families and cultural values.
Lawmakers from both sides of the House have previously debated the performance of security agencies, with calls for increased accountability and welfare support for personnel.
The Minister’s appeal signals government’s push to highlight security gains as Uganda continues to position itself as a stable partner in the East African region.
