The National Resistance Movement has expressed condolences to families affected by a road accident in Kapchorwa District that killed 21 people, including 20 pupils of King David Junior School, Ndejje.

In a statement issued Friday, NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, said the party was “heartbroken” by the loss.

“On behalf of the National Resistance Movement, I extend our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their beloved children and loved ones in the tragic road accident involving King David Junior School (Ndejje) pupils,” Todwong said. “The tragic accident occurred yesterday in Kapchorwa District.”

He described the deaths as “heartbreaking and has plunged the entire nation into mourning.”

The crash, which happened on Thursday, also left several people injured. Todwong said the party’s thoughts and prayers were with the bereaved families, the school community and the country at large.

“We pray for God’s healing and wish those injured a quickest recovery,” he stated.

Todwong called on authorities to carry out a “prompt and immediate investigation into the cause of this accident” to establish what led to the incident. He also urged drivers and operators transporting passengers, particularly children, to observe road safety regulations.

“I urge all road users especially those charged with carrying passengers, especially children, to exercise maximum caution while on the road,” he said.

The Secretary General appealed for calm as investigations continue and asked the public to support the affected families.

“May the Almighty grant eternal rest to the departed souls and comfort their families during this difficult time,” he concluded.

King David Junior School is a private primary school based in Ndejje, Wakiso District. Education and transport officials have yet to release a full report on the cause of the accident.
