UIRI HQRS: Bro Charles Mukundane, Overseer of Karimero Souls Redemption Ministries (KSRM) Church, on Wednesday led a delegation from his congregation on an exposure visit to the Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) in Kampala. The visit aimed to equip church members with practical skills and knowledge on small-scale enterprises and innovations that can spur income generation and self-development.

The KSRM team was received by UIRI officials who took them through a guided tour of the Institute’s incubation and skilling facilities. Members were introduced to a range of viable small business opportunities, including value addition in agro-processing, cosmetics production, bakery and confectionery, mushroom growing, soap and detergent making, and crafts. UIRI technologists demonstrated production processes and highlighted low-cost technologies that can be adopted by individuals and groups with minimal startup capital.
Addressing the delegation, Bro Mukundane commended UIRI for opening its doors to faith-based institutions and empowering ordinary citizens with hands-on innovations. “Our goal as a church is not only spiritual growth but also economic transformation. We believe God has called us to be productive in every area of life. These innovations show that with the right skills, our members can start small businesses, create jobs, and uplift their families,” he said.
UIRI’s team emphasized the Institute’s mandate to support local enterprise development through research, training, and technology transfer. They encouraged the church to formalize groups that can benefit from UIRI’s incubation programs and technical support.
Participants expressed optimism after the tour, noting that the practical demonstrations demystified business startups. “I never knew I could make quality soap or package juice from my home with simple machines. I’m going to start immediately,” said one member.
The visit is part of KSRM Church’s broader community empowerment program that integrates faith with socio-economic development. Bro Mukundane pledged to mobilize members to take up the opportunities presented, adding that the church will work closely with UIRI to organize follow-up skilling sessions.
UIRI reaffirmed its commitment to partner with churches and community groups to drive innovation-led job creation in line with Uganda’s development agenda.
