Kyadondo Rd, K’la Uganda: President Yoweri Museveni has officially expressed his interest in running for both the position of Presidential Flag Bearer and NRM Party National Chairman by picking up nomination forms at the NRM Headquarters in Kyadondo. This move sets the stage for what could become his seventh successive term at the helm of Uganda’s leadership.
According to President Museveni, Uganda has progressed through five stages of development since 1986, and the NRM aims to transform the country into a $500 billion economy within the next five years. Speaking after collecting the nomination forms, Museveni reaffirmed his commitment to steering Uganda through its next phase of development under the NRM’s long-term vision.
The President emphasized the importance of ideological purity and economic transformation within the NRM, urging newly elected district chairpersons to maintain impartiality and steer clear of corruption. “It’s crucial to prioritize leaders who truly understand the party’s ideology and principles,” he said, adding that party members should not elect individuals driven by personal agendas instead of focusing on the national interest.
Museveni’s nomination marks a significant step in the NRM’s internal electoral process, setting the tone for the party’s direction and national priorities in the coming years. Upon arrival at the NRM Electoral Commission Headquarters, the President was received by top government and party officials, including Vice President Jessica Alupo, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong.
The event was attended by hundreds of party supporters who gathered to witness Museveni pick up the nomination forms. A convoy of boda boda riders clad in yellow T-shirts escorted the President in a show of support, creating a festive atmosphere outside the NRM secretariat.
NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi officially presented the forms to Museveni, confirming that the President had paid the required Shs 40 million, Shs 20 million for each of the two positions. Museveni pledged to drive Uganda’s economic transformation over the next five years, citing widespread support from citizens during his recent national tours.
The President’s emphasis on economic transformation, good governance, and ideological purity reflects the key pillars on which the NRM intends to build its future mandate. As the party’s presidential flag bearer and national chairman, Museveni’s leadership will likely shape Uganda’s development trajectory in the coming years.
