Kisoro, Kigezi Sub Region: Security in Kisoro is holding a suspected terrorist who allegedly entered Uganda from the Democratic Republic of Congo through Kibare Village in Busanza Sub County, Kisoro district.
Community members arrested the suspect, identified as Mugisha Alex, on Tuesday this week and later handed him over to UPDF soldiers attached to the Busanza army detach.
The Kisoro Resident District Commissioner, Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi, confirmed the incident and said that the suspect was taken while drinking Warangi in a bar at Gasayo trading centre in Kibare village, Buhumbu Parish, in Busanza Sub County.
He noted that the suspect entered the bar at around 2:00 pm and started asking many questions, including the direction of Kampala, which made bar-goers suspicious of him.
The suspect is believed to have heard suspicious bar-goers whispering about arresting him, and he removed a grenade from his pocket and threw it into crates of beer that were placed next to him.
Yesterday, three children were seen playing with an unfamiliar object at the same trading centre, which made a concerned resident contact RDC Hajji Shafiq Ssekandi, who also notified Busanza army detach command. They went to the location and discovered that it was a grenade.
He also said that during interrogation, the suspect admitted to hiding the grenade in the bar. The 35th battalion is preparing to hand over the suspect to the second division barracks in Mbarara.
He appreciated residents for being vigilant and reporting on time.
He asked other members of the public to emulate Kibare residents by always informing security and authorities of any suspicious matters because of insecurity in our neighboring country, DRC.
