Retired Army General Kale Kayihura is not new to most Ugandans. The 67-year-old retired army man had for years been in Museveni’s closed circle, which perhaps helped him rise to the top of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and later given other assignments such as managing the day-to-day affairs of the Uganda Police. During an event organised at State House Entebbe and officiated by President Museveni on Friday, September 1, 2023, where 11 army officers, including Kayihura, were officially sent off into retirement, the once troubled former police chief lauded President Museveni for inspiring him and his other colleagues…

A statement from the Minister of State for Energy, Sidronius Okaasai, on the unmitigated spike in fuel prices has left members of parliament unconvinced. Last week, the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, put the Government to task over the escalating fuel prices, but Okaasai’s statement suggests the government will continue with its non-interference approach on commodity prices. “Uganda operates a liberalised downstream petroleum market, where pump prices are determined by the forces of demand and supply as guided by the Petroleum Supply Act of 2003 and Petroleum Supply General Regulations (2009) with amendments of 2012 and 2018,” said Okaasai during…
