675 motorcyclists have been arrested in less than two weeks for not wearing crash helmets. Police have said many motorcycle riders do not bother wearing crash helmets even when they have them. Micheal Kananura, the Traffic Police Spokesperson, explains that despite several warnings, many bodaboda riders have not bothered to own crash helmets and driving licenses. Kananura said police have intensified operations mostly at junctions to arrest motorcyclists who are not wearing crash helmets, or riding without valid licenses including those who have deliberately not acquired reflector jackets. A senior Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldier has been charged and remanded at the General Court Martial in Makindye over forgery allegations. Major Moses Muganga Kahebwa, 53, who is residing at Bombo Barracks and attached to the Engineering Brigade, appeared before a seven-member court panel led by Brigadier General Freeman Robert Mugabe. Security authorities in Kabale District recently arrested a Rwandan national, Jaan De Dieu Mbonimpa, for allegedly operating an illegal soft drink factory in Kyanamira parish, Kyanamira Sub County. Mbonimpa, a resident of Nyagatare district in Rwanda, was producing a soft drink called “Marishari” without proper permits and certifications.
