Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda Human Rights Commission Tribunal, led by Chairperson Hon. Mariam Wangadya, has commenced hearing cases of alleged human rights violations at the Jinja Regional Office.
The Tribunal, comprising Commissioners Hon. Shifrah Lukwago, Hon. Atuhaire Jacket Rwabukurukuru, and Hon. Simeo Nsubuga, is currently hearing a total of nine cases.
These cases involve alleged violations of fundamental rights, including the right to life, personal liberty, and freedom from torture, cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment.
The hearings mark a crucial step in the Commission’s efforts to address human rights abuses and provide justice to victims.
Taking the Tribunal to the regions, increases access to justice for citizens in the region, hence realization of UHRC’s commitment of promoting and protecting human rights across Uganda.
