UHRC Recommits to Protecting Human Rights Defenders in Uganda Strongly

Munyonyo, Uganda: The Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and supporting human rights defenders in the country. Chairperson Hon. Mariam Fauzat Wangadya officially opened the 20th anniversary celebrations of Defend Defenders at Speke Resort Munyonyo, a platform that involved like-minded stakeholders from diverse backgrounds with a common though of seeing the human rights space leveled.

The UHRC Chairperson expressed gratitude to Hassan Shire and his team for collaborating with the Commission to reactivate the Human Rights Defenders Desk, urging all defenders to utilize this resource to address their concerns.

She emphasized the importance of protecting human rights defenders, noting that their safety is crucial to advancing human rights protection. The UHRC has designated a special desk to provide support and refuge to human rights defenders.
