Living along shores of Lake Albert commonly known as -in Runyoro-‘Enyanja Mwitanzige’, they do fishing as their major economic activity and less of farming.
Historically, their origin is not clear though some hypothesis indicate that they could have originated from Kagungu-a place in present day Republic Rwanda. and are believed to have been used used as a force to weaken the then King Kabalega.
Their intention to break away from the historical Kingdom of Bunyoro seem inevitable as it is now almost a song to every ‘Mugungu’ (a person from Bagungu community).
Amidst all this, Mr. Andrew Kirungi Byakutaga, the Premier (Omuhikirwa) of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom pledged to neutralize the move.
Let the president allow bagungu community to breakaway because they are totally different from banyoro.The reason why munyoro can’t speak lugungu.
Bagungu as community we have not benefited anything from Bunyoro kitara kingdom so our hearts are in pains. What pm Byakutage Andrew is saying is nothing to our community. And the few Bagungu in administration of Bunyoro kitara kingdom don’t even know our problems and are not residents of Buliisa much as they are Bagungu.
