The police in Kisoro district have opened an investigation into the death of a 25-year-old woman. According to regional police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the deceased has been identified as Sarah Narukwanga, the wife of Samuel Imalingati, a police officer stationed at the Nyarusiza Police Post.
Imalingati reportedly left his home on Monday morning after leaving his wife and one-year-old child to prepare breakfast. He went to a nearby reading spot for approximately 30 minutes. Upon returning, he discovered Narukwanga unconscious and hanging from a wrapper.
Maate says the officer immediately alerted his colleagues at the Kisoro Police Station. Police proceeded to secure the scene before launching a probe. The district’s scene of crime officer and a team of detectives then conducted an examination of the area, collecting forensic evidence.
The body was transported to the Kisoro mortuary for a postmortem examination. Maate noted that inquiries are ongoing to determine the cause of death. A case of suspected suicide was registered under reference number DEF 11/2023 at the Kisoro Central Police Station.
Police sources say all aspects are being investigated, given the sensitive nature of the case involving a police officer’s family member. The full findings will help determine if further action is warranted.
