ARUA CITY: Arua City police including Flying Squad Unit rescued a Boda-boda rider from Irate mob at Democratic Republic of Congo border, and arrested two suspected motorcycle robbers.
SSP Angucia Josephine,the Public Relations Officer (PRO) West Nile Region told Journalists that in the same operation, police recovered several suspected robbed items which are all exhibited.
“These arrests and recoveries were made in an operation that followed the incident on 09th August 2023 at around 8:15am. It started in Lia border and extended towards Arua City Central Division and the rescued bodaboda rider called Waiga Muzamil was from Lobidra stage in Arua City Central Division and had transported a customer from Arua City Center to Lia border line with DR Congo”
She said: “As he was handing over the customer to his counterparts of DR Congo, he was attacked by the said mob, assaulted, and his motorcycle was taken away from him by the mob. However he was rescued by Lia border post police, who later teamed up with other police officers from Ayivu West Division, Arua Central Business Division and the Flying Squad Unit to do an operation following the incident”, SSP Angucia said.
“The two suspected robbers arrested in the operation are Abdul Rahman Mustafa of Obolokofuku cell, and Ali Bruhan of Kirabu cell all in Arua City Central Division. In the process of arrest, the team of officers recovered Seven registration number plates, a helmet, Seven tracking devices of stollen motorcycles, a metallic plate and cash 2.5 million shillings and the two suspects are now detained at Ayivu West Division headquarters in Onduparaka, meanwhile inquiries are on going under Ayivu West Division CRB 117/2023”
Warning to the Public.
She warned: “It should be noted that motorcycle theft is a common crime in the border towns of West Nile, and they are normally smuggled to be sold in DR Congo through the porous borderline. We urge dealers in stollen motorcycles to desist from the business as it’s criminal, meanwhile members of the border communities are urged to be vigilant and report suspected motorcycle thieves and robbers to the nearest police station for quick management so as to minimize the crime”.
The two suspects are at Arua City Central Police station awaiting to be produced in courts of laws
