The Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, has emphasized the importance of conducting peaceful and orderly elections during the by-elections. During the just concluded by elections in Bukedea District, Byabakama Mugenyi called upon all candidates to refrain from engaging in violence and to ensure a peaceful electoral process, highlighting the significance of upholding democratic principles in the country.
According to Justice Byabakama, the recently held elections were successful, and the Electoral Commission (EC) promises to continue organizing successful elections in the future. The EC completed the preparation of the National Voters’ Register for Bukedea District, which included the names of all 100,294 registered voters. The breakdown of registered voters shows that females account for 53,899 (53.7%) and males for 46,395 (46.3%).
Regarding the Bukedea by-election, Justice Byabakama announced the candidates who were duly nominated to contest for the seat which was eventually won by NRM’s Akol Mary. The nominated candidates are as follows:

- Akol Mary – NRM
- Lokwiisk Tychicus Ebukalin – Independent
- Oita Sam Odeke – FDC
Directly Elected Councillors:
- Epilo Moses – Independent
- Kedi Johnson – Independent
- Ojilong Richard Kabuya Sofi – Independent
- Okia William – Forum for Democratic Change (FDC)
- Ongole Richard – National Resistance Movement (NRM)
The announcement of the nominated candidates reflects the diverse political landscape and the range of choices available to the electorate in Bukedea.
