During the Certificate Awarding Ceremony at ADB on June 12 th , 2023, by the Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality, and Languages at Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Associate Professor Milburga Atcero delivered a speech on behalf of Prof. Moses Muhwezi, the acting Principal.
The speech emphasized the importance of acquiring generic skills, discipline, effective communication, and the collaborative efforts between lecturers and students for long-term career success.
Associate Professor Atcero encouraged students to pursue their passion in education and complete all levels of their chosen field.
She highlighted the value of intellectual capacity over material wealth, emphasizing that the knowledge gained through education is a valuable asset that can enrich not only their own lives but also the lives of future generations.
As role models, students have the opportunity to inspire and guide their children and those who come after them. Recognizing the hard work of successful students in their respective cohorts, Associate Professor Atcero stressed that obtaining a first degree is not sufficient in today’s world.
She urged students to continue seeking knowledge and to be proactive in their educational journey.
She expressed concern about students who lose focus due to distractions such as gambling and other vices, emphasizing the importance of staying dedicated to their goals.
Representing Dr. Mercy Arinaitwe, the head of the department, Mr. Waako Fred advised students to preserve the MUBS legacy and protect the knowledge they have acquired. He urged them to excel academically, maintain discipline, and safeguard their intellectual growth.
Mr. Fred reminded students that the work started within them will be brought to fruition, emphasizing the importance of hard work and personal development.
Dr. Abbey Mutumba, the Head of the Department of Languages, cautioned students about potential challenges they may face in the professional world. He warned them of potential intrigue and attempts to bring them down but advised them to remain focused on their goals.
In conclusion, the speeches delivered at the Certificate Awarding Ceremony at MUBS emphasized the significance of acquiring generic skills, discipline, effective communication, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge. S
tudents were encouraged to follow their passion, complete their education, and serve as role models for future generations.
They were advised to protect and build upon their acquired knowledge, excel academically, and stay focused amidst potential challenges.

Nakimuli Rhonia, Kizza Precious, Bakanasa Marion, Kimbugwe Yakubu, Nabbosa Munira, Ashaba Julian, Moro Derrick, Sheilla Mamtazi to mention but a few are some of the students who were awarded with certificates.
