Kampala, Uganda: During Prime Minister’s time on Thursday’s Parliament Plenary, Bugangaizi East legislator Hon. Agaba Aisa Black resurrected the issue of compensation for Mpokya evictees whose issue has been immersed in cold water even when there have been many attempts to execute this.
Hon. Aisa wondered how some have evictees received their compensation but others have since not been handled.
She informed that since 1992 when eviction happened, people spread to all parts of the country say Isingiro, Mubende, Kagadi, Kibaale and notably Greater Bugangaizi in current Kakumiro District but it’s to her surprise that now 30years these people have not yet been fully compensated.
“Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, I would like to understand when the government is going to compensate these people because it’s long overdue”. Hon. Aisa asked.
She added that evictees left a lot of wealth in Mpokya, Tooro Sub Region in Government’s efforts to gazette the area for a national park but it’s so hurting that they have almost lost hope for compensation for their lost property.
In Greater Bugangaizi for example, Government secured land from the ‘then inhabitants’ Banyoro and every registered evictee got a minimal portion of land to settle with promises that they would soon valuate their lost property and compensate them- a promise that has since hanged in air like a baloon.
