Kampala, Uganda: Uganda’s oldest University- Makerere University and Kampala International University shined over others in the performance according to the webometrics rankings .
Universities are ranked according to visibility, transparency (openness), and excellence. Below is the list of top ten Universities in Uganda according to the former ranks.
1.Makerere University
This is Uganda’s premier University having been the top University position for quite long having gained reputation due to its research and produced notable persons across the globe. Established in 1922, Makerere aims at providing innovative teaching, research, and services responsive to national and global needs.
2.Kampala International University (KIU)
KIU is Uganda’s second-best Institution of higher learning. The private University has built a name of excellence with quite a good reputation for the past couple of years. Founded in 2001, the University has two campuses in Kansanga and one in Western Uganda.
3.Mbarara University Of Science and technology (MUST)
Best known for producing some of the best Doctors in the country, MUST takes the third position among the best Universities in the country. Opened in 1989 MUST has produced more than 1660 academic publications in the field of research.
4.Kyambogo University
In the fourth position is Uganda’s best Engineering Institution, Kyambogo University. Established In 2003 after the merger of ITEK(Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo),UPK (Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo)and UNISE(Uganda National Institute of Special Needs),Kyambogo aims at advancing and promoting knowledge and development of skills in science, technology and education.
5.Busitema University
Busitema University is Uganda’s fifth best Institution of higher learning. Busitema University offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study with its primary focus on Agriculture related fields. Busitema was founded in 2007.
6.Gulu University
This sixth best University in Uganda focuses on practice-oriented training using transformative pedagogy which aims at producing critical thinkers who are problem solvers. It is also popular for producing efficient and well modelled Doctors.
7.Uganda Martyrs University
UMU is a private University affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church in Uganda. The University is owned by the Episcopal Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Uganda. UMU ranks 7th in Uganda’s best Universities.
8.Makerere University Business School
Established in 1997, MUBS offers management and business courses at various university levels. It is an integral and Business School of Makerere University. Its the 8th best Institution in Uganda.
9.Islamic University In Uganda
Uganda’s 9th best University, IUIU was established in 1988, IUIU aims at serving as an academic institution, based on Islamic values, that creates knowledge and trains learners to fulfil society’s needs”
10.Mountains of the Moon University
The Mountains of the Moon University, is a public university in Uganda. Founded as a private, non-profit institution, the university became a public institution following an executive directive in January 2018. It is named after the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the Mountains of the Moon.It comes as number 10 on Uganda’s top Institutions of higher learning.
Other Institutions that follow the top ten include Ndejje, UCU, Bishop Stuart University among others.
