Available reports indicate that M23 rebels are moving towards the Uganda border from Ishasha in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is said that the only supply route between Uganda and the DRC city of Goma that has not been captured is the border.
According to Congolese nationals fleeing fighting in the DRC, the M23 rebels have taken Nyamilima Township and four other villages, which are just 19 kilometers from the border with Ishasha.
Gad Ahimbisibwe, the Kanungu Deputy Resident District Commissioner said that they have information that M23 rebels are indeed moving toward Uganda.
He urges border residents to refrain from taking in refugees on the run because they may pose a health and safety risk.
This comes just a few days after the East African Community Standby Force said that the rebels would leave the towns of Rumagambo, Kisigari, and Rugari, which they had taken by yesterday.
