Hoima, Uganda: Reports indicate that a stray bullet fired by flying squad operatives attached to the Albertine regional police claimed life of a two-year-old boy on Wednesday.
One ltakabir Kyakuhaire, who resided in Bulemwa village in Hoima West Division, Hoima city met his death when the operatives opened fire as they pursued suspected car thieves who were travelling in a Toyota Wish, registration number, UBB 533X.
Mother to the victim identified as Margret Atuhurra narrates that she saw her son falling down and bleeding after the stray bullet hit him. They immediately rushed him to Destiny Medical Centre for medical attention.
The deceased’s fathervAshraf Kyakuhaire wants the police to compensate his child and also cater for the medical bills. Innocent Kusiima, a clinical officer at Destiny Medical Centre says that the child is responding well to treatment, although was severely injured in the head.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson has regretted the incident. According to Hakiza, after the incident, the security operatives pursued the suspected car thieves and recovered the stolen vehicle which was abandoned in Kasingo cell in Hoima West Division.
