Mbale, Uganda: Police have inuagrated an inquiry into a suspected fire that happened on Christmas Eve in the Mbale Resident City Commissioner’s (RCC) office.
According to RCC John Rex Achila, the fire damaged sensitive files, operating licenses for non-governmental organizations, and other paperwork.
Achila endeavored to convince the public that the records in the file cabinets had not been destroyed.
He added that security officials do not maintain important information in their offices and that the documents that were burned were just operational.
Achila discovered the ruins while searching for paperwork in his office on Boxing Day.
Elgon Region Police Spokesperson Rogers Taitika claimed that the department will be checking CCTV video to discover who was responsible for the fire.
The Regional Coordination Center’s office is on Republic Street in Mbale City, beside regional security offices, regional immigration offices, and City Council offices.
