Makerere University: On Tuesday Uganda’s premier University officially rolled out the first ever Public Fair on Academic Transcripts and Certificates in its history.
The two-weeks Fair Public Fair commenced today 8th of November, 2022 and will be running between 9:00AM to 4:00PM from Monday to Friday (weekdays) and Saturdays at University’s mighty Freedom Square.
The fair will be a One Stop Centre for all issues, complaints and collection of the two documents in question.
The fair will majorly directly be supervised by the Department of the Academic Registrar and Directorate for ICT Support.
At a Press Conference held at University premises, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University stressed that they decided to initiate a Public Fair on very important documents in order to make it easy for anyone with an issue to get sorted and have them.
Mr. Nawangwe stated that according to reports from Academic Registrar’s Department, the Certificates uncollected are a mass compared to transcripts and so the Fair is important.
He revealed to Press that University’s Department of Academic Registrar is safely keeping documents right from 1950s.
He appealed to the Alumni of the University to use this two-week period to come, air out their issues and get immediate solution regarding their documents.
University’s Academic Registrar, Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi stated that they did this to break the bureaucratic processes alumni have been meeting in processing these important documents.
He added that they thought wise of this initiative with assurance that it will effectively help in mobilizing public participation towards the cause.
He also mentioned that there could be some Alumni who could have lost their documents, ‘at this Fair those issues will expedited’.
Chairperson of the Interdepartmental Task Force Tracer Process to Address all Outstanding Transcripts Issues at Makerere University Mr. Otim Lynd Tom told media that all the 10 colleges that make up the University have station in a common place (Freedom Square) to enable processes flow.
He revealed that over 100,000 transcripts and certificates are yet to be collected by owners.
