The gathering is held at Makerere University with the aim of bringing together former and current Guild Presidents, speakers and other student leaders from universities and other tertiary institutions across the country
Among the key speakers are the former President of Tanzania Jakaya Kikwete,Former prime Minister of Uganda Dr Ruhaka Rugunda,Justice and Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama
A total number of 7,392,676 youths who are above 18 years and below thirty years were registered for 2020/2021 GeneralElections which make 40.8% of registered voters (18,103,603) EC Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said.
The Guild Leaders Summit 2024 is running on the theme of the role of youth in the electoral process in Uganda.
“I started my journey as State Attorney in Fort Portal with the area covering Bunyoro, Tooro and Katonga. No vehicles and means to deliver justice across the region,” Justice Byabakama shared his strife, raising through ranks.
He said, Guild leaders, students and the youth form a critical group in the country’s governance, politics and elections, and as such a key constituency for the Elections.
