Model Judith Heard planted over 700 trees through her Judith Heard Foundation on Independence day at Buyiga Island, Mpigi district. This was concerning a campaign dubbed #50mTrees4Africa. The activity was also in a response to a newly created partnership with the Rotary Club of Rubaga where the Judith Heard Foundation became the implementing factor for all their environmental activities.
The activity was also made successful due to the provision of four kinds of indigenous tree species by the National Forestry Authority (NFA). The NFA which is also in partnership with the Judith Heard Foundation provided about 700 tree plantlets that were planted on the island.
The area authorities provided about 3 acres of land to be planted with trees and half of this has already been covered with 700 trees. Further, the Foundation revealed that each school-going pupil on the island has been assigned 2 trees for planting and nurturing. These pupils were announced as special ambassadors that will pamper the plantlets in between the monitoring and evaluation by the model’s Foundation.
Furthermore, Judith Heard’s Foundation noted that the Island is infested with acute poverty rates, lack of proper health services, and high teenage pregnancy rates, especially among the Basoga community. Engagements with the locals especially teenagers saw Judith Heard and her team engage them to prioritize education and adopt the 3bs (Books Before Babies).
For the mother, Judith’s team encouraged them to adopt family planning to control population pressure. Besides, the team also aims at curbing the high HIV/AIDS rate. Judith Heard also arrived at the island for the closing ceremony on the 9th of Independence day.
Heard rallied mothers and all women there to adopt the methods of family planning and avoid the myths and misconceptions surrounding contraception. Additionally, she urged the youths to desist drugs and also start up a plastic collection center. About 180 mosquito nets were also given by Judith and her partners.
“I have attended the closing event for our Independence campaign at Buyiga Island. 700 trees have been planted as part of the #50mTrees4Africa, 180 mosquito nets given to pregnant mothers, and awareness sessions have been held successfully,” she said.
Judith proceeded to thank her partners who made this activity possible. The beautician and fashionista have in the past few days and weeks been doing a lot of charity activities aimed at conserving the environment both in Uganda and Rwanda.
