Love & caring begins at home— that was the message as humanitarian and founder of Mothering Community Foundation, Hajjat Hanifah Karadi, marked her birthday this year with two acts of service: visiting her mother on the eve of her birthday, then dedicating the day to vulnerable members of the community.

On her birthday eve, 17th June, Karadi spent constructive private moments with her mother. “Mothering starts with the woman who first mothered you,” she said, hence setting the tone for the next day’s outreach.
Next morning on her birthday, she led Mothering Community Foundation in distributing basic clothing and home utensils to vulnerable families in Kampala. Beneficiaries included single mothers, elderly caregivers, and households struggling with basic household needs.

Speaking to community members during the distribution, Karadi emphasized humility and shared humanity over material wealth.
“Giving is not about waiting until you ‘have enough’. It’s about sharing what you have, when you have it. We are all equal before God,” she said, referencing Quran 49:13: “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.”

She went on to link the act to patriotism. “Patriotism is not just words or symbols. Patriotism is seeing your brother or sister in need and choosing to stand with them. A strong Uganda is one where no mother or child is left behind.”
The outreach aligns with Mothering Community Foundation’s mission of “Nurturing Lives, Building Communities” through maternal care, education support, and livelihood programs. The Foundation says it focuses on “curative mothering” addressing root causes of poverty and trauma, not just symptoms.
Community members who received support expressed gratitude. Several noted that the timing on Karadi’s birthday made the gesture more meaningful.
Karadi wrapped her day with a call for Ugandans to turn personal celebrations into community impact: “The best birthday gift is to love your neighbor. If you can join with a cloth, a cup, a plate — do it. If you can’t, bring a prayer.”
