The first-ever digital national population and housing census that started yesterday received a warm reception with most of the prominent Nationals being enumerated on the first day of the exercise.
Speaking after the enumeration exercise, the President congratulated Dr. Mukiza and his team for what he termed as a ‘comprehensive exercise’, stating that the questions being asked are very comprehensive and detailed.
The Kabaka of Buganda who is out of the country for medical attention was represented by Nabagereka Sylvia Naginda as the respondent
The Kyabazinga of Busoga Kingdom His Royal Highness William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, was officially counted by the enumeration team, led by the Deputy Executive Director Godfrey Nabongo at his Igenge palace in Jinja.
Iteso cultural leader Papa Emorimor Paul Sande Emolot Etomeilenge also is among the cultural leaders that part in the census exercise and have been counted. He urged other leaders and all Ugandans to embrace the Census.
Uganda Prisons Commissioner Frank Baine the overall supervisor of census in Prisons confirms that 397 enumerators, 125 supervisors were trained to conduct the exercise in Prisons. He says they have an orderly collaborative community which has made the enumeration excercise smooth. There are 269 prisons, 19 regions, 77,000 inmates, 14,000 staff he confirms.
Others already in UBOS system are Kampala Archbishop Paul Ssemogerere being counted on the first day of the 10-day national census on May 10, 2024, at his residence in Rubaga, Kampala City and the Bishop of the Diocese of kigezi diocese, the Rt. Rev. Bishop, Gaddie Akanjuna who noted that Participating in a census is a civic duty because it helps ensure good funding for communities as well informed decision-making.
The Chairman of Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) and MP for Budadiri West in Sironko District, Mr. Nandala- Mafabi Nathan James, along with his family members, participated in the census 2024 exercise on Friday. They were counted at his home village in Busamaga, Sironko District.
However, Kampala Caital City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has been enumerated by a team of officials from UBOS as Day Two of the 2024 Uganda census takes place.
The UBOS third Census and the first digital one started yesterday 10th may 2024 and is running u to 19may across the country.
