In a bid to address the alarming deterioration of the road infrastructure in Kampala City, Senior Presidential advisor on special operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has Tuesday morning embarked on an extensive inspection accompanied by a team from the Special Forces Command (SFC) engineering regiment and Kampala Executive Director Dorothy Kisaka.
The tour aimed to assess the magnitude of the road decay that has plagued the heart of the city.
SFC construction unit was awarded shs. 2 billion to fix 3km of potholes within the city center.
The bustling streets of downtown Kampala, once a symbol of urban vitality, have succumbed to a pothole crisis that has raised concerns among residents and officials alike. Muhoozi, the former Commander of the SFC, took a hands-on approach by personally touring the affected areas for the second time, witnessing firsthand the challenges posed by the deteriorating road conditions.
During the inspection, General Muhoozi expressed his deep concern for the impact of the decay on the daily lives of Kampala residents. He emphasized the need for urgent intervention to restore the city’s roads to a state conducive to safe and efficient travel.
Accompanying Muhoozi was a contingent from the Special Forces Command, which has taken the lead in pioneering repair efforts.
The road repair campaign is not only focused on filling potholes but also includes a comprehensive assessment of the underlying causes of the decay. Engineers from the SFC are conducting thorough inspections to identify structural issues and formulate long-term solutions that will prevent a recurrence of the problem.
City dwellers who have long endured the challenges posed by the deteriorating roads, have welcomed the swift action taken by Muhoozi and the SFC. Many expressed hope that this initiative marks the beginning of a comprehensive urban renewal project.
As the SFC pioneers the repair efforts, Muhoozi has assured residents that the government is committed to addressing the broader issue of infrastructure development in Kampala.
The road resurgence initiative is seen as a crucial step in revitalizing the city’s urban core and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
The coming weeks will witness the tangible results of these repair endeavors, as the SFC works tirelessly to transform Kampala’s downtown roads from symbols of decay to avenues of resurgence.
