Kampala, Uganda: Uganda’s Democratic Secretary General Dr. Gerald Siranda has been duly nominated for the East African Legislative Assembly Member of Parliament race.
Important to note.
Nominations of EALA Candidates kicked off yesterday the 19th of September, 2022 and has climaxed today at 5pm, the real time of this publication.
After, the Committee line with Rule 12 of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament will vet the contestants for their suitability and qualification, and the Speaker will on Wednesday, 21 September 2022 announce to the House the names of successful candidates, which names will also be gazetted and published in print media in line with Appendix B of the Rules of Procedure.
Campaigns will take place on Thursday, 29 September 2022 and voting as well.
 Dr. Siranda was accompanied by Hon. Norbert Mao who doubles as Uganda’s Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs as well Democratic Party President.
In addition, Democratic Party Vice President Hon. Fred Mukasa Mbidde who has been in EALA Parliament for two terms and Party Spokesperson Okoler Opio.

It is rumored that Dr. Siranda’s nomination follows the controversial Cooperation Agreement that was signed between NRM Party’s Chairman and the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on behalf of his party and Democratic Party President Hon. Norbert Mao on the other hand.
It is clear to Ugandans that the Cooperation agreement was highly contested by notable DP members arguing that Hon. Mao did not consult from them before the marriage.
Some sources indicate that Dr. Siranda was promised that he’ll be endorsed by the NRM Party for EALA slot which came to pass as well Hon. Mao be given a ministerial job which happened.
So today, this rumor has instead seemed true as he has been duly nominated awaiting vetting tomorrow.
About credentials of nomination for EALA seat.
One must be a citizen of Uganda.
One must qualify to be elected as Member of Parliament.
One should not currently not be an MP.
One should not be a Minister.
One should not be serving in the East African Community.
One should have proven experience/interest in East Africa Community Affairs.
*All aspirants paid a non-refundable nomination fee of Shs3 million.
Campaigns and Voting for all candidates duly verified and approved by Parliament shall be conducted in Parliament on Thursday, 29th September 2022 starting at 10:00 am.
So far over fifteen candidates have been nominated for EALA race but the official number will be announce by the Speaker of Parliament of Uganda tomorrow.
