Two senior military officers have been dismissed from the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) over the deadly attack on a base camp in Mogadishu in May this year. Maj. John Steven Oluka, 58, and Maj. Zadock Abor, 49, were sentenced by the General Court Martial sitting in the Somali capital on Saturday. A senior officer in the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF), Major Mark Wanyama who initially implicated several UPDF colleagues in the forceful eviction of businessman Jackson Twinamasiko, now faces accusations from the very soldiers who participated in the eviction. A man has appeared in court after a famous 300-year-old kola tree in southern Ghana was chopped down. Pictures of the felled tree, located in the town of Feyiase, caused outrage among Ghanaians online. The ancient tree dated back to the Ashanti Kingdom, part of modern-day Ghana. The Ugandan police destroyed over 56 kilograms of narcotics worth Shs3 billion that had been seized at Entebbe International Airport between 2020 and 2023. The drugs, comprising heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine, were burnt at Nsambya Police Clinic in Kampala on November 10th in the presence of senior police officers and magistrates. The illicit substances destroyed included 42 kilograms of heroin, 6 kilograms of cocaine, and 7 kilograms of methamphetamine that had been confiscated from smugglers attempting to traffic them through Entebbe Airport.
