The Government is in the final stages of increasing remunerations for Uganda Peoples Defense Forces-UPDF soldiers, the Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs Vincent Ssempijja has revealed. In his New Year message to the country, the President said employees should be patient with their employers and not be highly demanding of better salaries. “We need to harmonize with our people working in the factories. An official of the Bank of Uganda has died in an accident along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway. The accident occurred on Sunday morning near Kajjansi Road Toll. “Tragically, early this morning, a fatal accident occurred on the Kampala—Entebbe Expressway. Police in Buvuma are investigating a tragic incident on Lake Victoria, where a boat traveling from Zigunga to Zinga Island was involved in an accident, killing 5 people. The incident occurred yesterday (January 1, 2024) at around 7pm. A Japan Airlines plane was in flames on the runway of Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on Tuesday after apparently colliding with a coast guard aircraft, television reports said. The images on broadcaster NHK showed the plane moving along the runway before an explosion of orange flames burst from beneath and behind it. State Minister for Higher Education Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo has cautioned schools against opening the school term before the official date. According to the official school calendar from the Ministry of Education and Sports, the school term will commence on 5th February. Muyingo says that he has already received reports that many schools are preparing to start teaching before that date, which he said is illegal.
