Mbale, Bugisu-Uganda: Newly Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) reconstructed bridge along the Mbale-Busamaga road in Mbale city collapsed just a week after it was opened by the Uganda National Roads Authority (Unra). The bridge was rebuilt in mid-December 2022 after it was destroyed by floods in August, which affected several roads in Mbale district, eastern Uganda. Vatican, Rome-Italy: Pope Francis said Wednesday that former Pope Benedict is “very sick.” Speaking during his general audience, the pope asked for special prayers for Benedict. “I can confirm that in the last few hours there has been a deterioration due to advancing age,” Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said in a statement. “The situation at the moment remains under control, monitored continually by doctors.” The Vatican said also Pope Francis went to see Benedict. Kampala, Uganda: According to the estimated budget for the financial year 2023/24 released by the Ministry of Finance, Uganda’s Public debt is set to increase from the current 48.4 percent to 53.1 percent in the financial year 2023. Lwengo, Uganda: Nine (9) passengers/people have died and twelve (12) others nursing wounds in a terrible road accident that occurred on the Masaka – Mbarara highway on Wednesday evening. Kampala, Uganda: After a full year, President Museveni has not appointed the new Governor of the Central Bank of Uganda (Bank of Uganda) to replace Late Governor Emmanuel Tumusime Mutebile and his signature remains alive on the currency structure of Uganda’s banknotes. Nairobi, Kenya: It is alleged that most of Royal Media Services (RMS) workers that house Citizen Tv and other media subsidiaries have been admitted in critical condition over suspected food poisoning. An anonymous source has confirmed that at least five employees are currently in hospital over a food borne illness. Mbale, Uganda: Police have inuagrated an inquiry into a suspected fire that happened on Christmas Eve in the Mbale Resident City Commissioner’s (RCC) office. According to RCC John Rex Achila, the fire damaged sensitive files, operating licenses for non-governmental organizations, and other paperwork.
