In a shocking incident on Tuesday evening, an officer from Jinja Road police station has been arrested under suspicion of fatally shooting his wife at the police barracks in Kampala. The victim, Atino Jennifer, also a police officer, was affiliated with the Very Important Person Protection Unit (VIPPU) of the Police. “The cause of shooting is not yet established. The Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) has finally cleared 69-seater buses going to and from western Uganda to use the temporary bridge erected over River Katonga. Since May 2023 when floods washed away the bridge, it has been closed to bigger motor vehicles including buses and trailers. Foreign nationals are hiring Ugandans to pose as their parents so as to ease their application for Ugandan passports, the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) has said. Simon Peter Mundeyi, spokesperson for ministry of Internal Affairs says that Ugandans are paid as low as Shs 2 million to sign off papers for anyone wishing to fraudulently hold a Ugandan passport. The Anti-Corruption court has extended the arrest warrant issued against David Livingstone Ebiru, the former executive director of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS). Somali National Army (SNA) said its forces on Monday killed 43 al-Shabab militants and injured several others after conducting an operation in Galgaduud region, central Somalia.
