Striga weeds have destroyed an estimated 600 acres of crops in Agago district. The most affected parishes are; Aywee, Gudi, Kiwaro, Ngwero and Luzira in Lokole Sub-County. Also known as witchweed, Striga, is a parasitic weed that attacks mostly cereal crops such as maize, rice and millet. By attaching its roots to the roots of the crop to obtain nutrients, the weed leaves the crop undernourished and stunted. The Territorial Police of Kira Division and Kiira East Region have arrested nine individuals suspected of noise pollution in Kireka Bweyogerere in Kira Municipality. Police received complaints from concerned residents on September 10th, 2023 at around midnight that several bars in the area were playing loud music, preventing locals from sleeping. The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party has said they will block a delegate conference organized by the party’s national chairman, Wasswa Birigwa, on the grounds that it was not authorized by the proper party processes and structures. Police in Luwero district are hunting for a 30-year-old woman, Catherine Asaba who allegedly killed her 47-year-old husband, Sgt Cosma Oriema, a soldier of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF). Unidentified people attacked the home of Adjumani district chairperson Ben Anyama in Adjumani town council and burnt two vehicles that were parked in the compound.
