The Minister of Finance, Matia Kasaija has tabled two motions before Parliament seeking to borrow Shs2.436 trillion including; a World Bank loan of Shs1.217 trillion for smart agriculture and Shs1.219 trillion from Islamic Development Corporation for road construction. Busoga East police are holding 25-year-old Henry Kasawo on suspicion of being involved in the death of his teenage girlfriend, Ruth Ahereza. Kasawo, a resident of Kakola cell in Ivukula town council, Namutumba district, is believed to have committed the crime on October 6th, 2023, before going into hiding. He was arrested when he returned home to collect some household items. Dozens of students of Masaka Senior Secondary School narrowly escaped being killed in a dormitory fire Tuesday morning. The fire, whose source is not known, broke out in one of the dormitories at the girls’ wing in the wee hours of this morning, razing down a dormitory hosting over 50 students. A pastor, Dwayne Gordon has been shot dead during a church service in Johannesburg, South Africa. Three congregants were reported to be wounded from the shooting incident which took place on Friday night. Dwayne Gordon was leading a service at the Eagles Christian Centre when armed gang members stormed the church and opened fire. Buganda Road Chief Magistrates Court has committed Police Officer Ivan Wabwire to the High Court to face trial on charges of murdering an Indian money lender Uttam Bhandari Saremal. Wabwire was committed by Chief Magistrate Ronald Kayizzi after the State Attorney Ivan Kyazze informed the Court that investigations in the case were complete. Kyazze tendered before Court committal papers which the Prosecution will rely on to pin Wabwire for murder. The Kisoro District Police have detained three suspects after intercepting an estimated 60kg of illegal ivory along the Kisoro-Bunagana Road. Reliable sources revealed the suspects, all residents of Kanombe Village in Muramba Sub-County, had concealed the ivory pieces in a sack of sweet potatoes. Police led by OC Station Pius Asiimwe discovered the contraband during a morning patrol using an unmarked Toyota Pro-Box vehicle. Investigators determined the ivory came from a single mature elephant based on two distinct tusk tips among the 10 confiscated pieces. Members of Parliament have expressed parallel views on the endorsement by the Committee of the House on Gender, Labour, and Social Development imploring the government to build more correctional facilities for juvenile offenders across the country.
