A meeting by the ANC’S top brass – its national executive committee (NEC) which was due to meet on Tuesday has been postponed to Thursday. South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa is under growing pressure after leading the ruling African National Congress (ANC) to its worst election result in 30 years, forcing it to share power. Yasin Jerwa, a 25-year-old Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) officer, has pleaded guilty to charges of illegal possession of a pangolin. According to the Wildlife Act of 2019, Jerwa faces the possibility of life imprisonment or a fine of up to shillings 200 million, or both, for his offenses. Zambia’s former First Lady Esther Lungu and her daughter Chiyeso Katete have been arrested over possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime. The two were arrested on Thursday in the capital, Lusaka, alongside another close relative identified as Charles Phiri, authorities said. The family of the late Col (rtd) Charles Okello Engola, former State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, intend to drag the Government of Uganda to court seeking Shs200bn compensation. Engola, who was also Oyam North Mp, was killed in cold blood by his own guard, Private Wilson Sabiiti last year in May.
