Sheraton Hotel, Kampala: Gen. Katumba Wamala, Uganda’s Minister for Works and Transport has expressed with concern the desperacy within the youths of be them ng rich very fast which has caused many blunders. He appealed to them to be patient at work if they are to succeed.“…….when you get a job, value the job, respect the job, respect your employer, but also be patient. One of the problems our youths are facing today, they want to get rich quick, and they want to get rich yesterday. When he gets a job within a few months, he wants to drive the same car the boss is driving. Now that makes them dip their fingers into the pie by doing the wrong things and then really keep moving from one job to another. You before the event settles in one job is moving in another job.” Gen. Katumba.
“So my advice is that please settle down, take time to learn the job, respect that job and the little as it may be because you may look at it as little but once you lose that job it will be a lot of money. So earn that little and make sure you make a saving whatever, however little it is then that you’ll be able to make it in life.” He added.
Referring to the book, Gen. Katumba cited that once one thinks they cannot do something, that’s why they find, for example, they tell them, this is a government program, government has brought money, youths livelihood fund, but because they think they can’t get out of poverty, they’ll just eat the money. He advised that it’s very good for them to pick this book and read what is in the book, saying while just scanning through, saw a lot of inspirational messages which are there and may inspire the viewer. Ivan Mawanda/Author.
In his remarks, Ivan Mawanda the author of the book told this website that by writing this book, he thought that it was the only thing he could do to help the mindset of young adults or people in our generation to think in a matrix way, not in a normal way.
“The reason that many of us look at first failure or trials as the destination or end. No, that’s not the end, for me this book, it was first declared as un publishable work, Secondly, all publishing houses told me, no, you never studied literature, I did engineering, That’s why I hired people having Masters in Mass communication, people having Masters in Literature to polish my language but keep the message, the flow and uniformity that has come out as a milestone today.” He revealed.
“Think you can or think you can’t, either way you are right. So if you think you can, you have to perceive the cost of what it takes to get to where you want, and that’s the vision, the power of vision. You must be focused, you must keep your goals, and you must be willing to attain what you hope for. Said Ivan.”
Asked how the book would benefit the youths, Ivan cited that, In Uganda, there’s what we call millennial generation, people born from 80s who look at life in a mediocre way whereby telling someone that it’s not all about white collar job, or education, or academia, but it involves developing your talent. One could be weak in class but so talented in music or sports, either way one can be a good person in your intellectual ability, but when your background or financial capacity cannot take you to what you can’t be. He says let’s close that chapter, let’s stop blaming the government, let’s stop criticizing our family, let’s stop having toxic prayers to God.
“This book, according to the new curriculum, it’s a must read to all students and since that it has gone through six professors and they’ve given it a forward. It has been a real, real milestone to change the attitude, ethics, behavior and momentum of people in our generation. Because in each chapter I set up different examples, real life, it’s factual, non-fictional, and then I also set what we call a climax to how you can perceive what you’re aiming for.” He said.
He revealed that his book is looked at as gold, because it has the element of storytelling coming in a humble way, but when it has logic, understanding, like how one reads the Bible, ‘Each time you get to the verse, you interpret it in a different way, So it’s in literature because it has good English, but it’s beyond. It can even go for career guidance, it can even go for psychology, it can even go for theology.’
Think You Can emphasizes one’s progress beyond imagination, aggressive but dignified yet frank-filled in nature, this is a noble tool to build and encourage the voice of reason with every opportunity that avails itself so that you can have an excellent tale ending. ‘Life is what our thoughts make it, what we are today is a result of what we think; thoughts are the building blocks of life.’
