WESTNILE: Obongi district is set to get the first commercial bank as resolved in a meeting held on Tuesday by several district leaders and top management of Post bank.
Post bank has resolved to start operations in Obongi district becoming the first bank to operate in the district.
The assurance has been given by the regional post bank head of distribution in Northern Uganda, Mr. Patrick Okwi Osakan while meeting Obongi district leaders.
The meeting was attended by the district chairperson Obongi Hon. Haji Abib Buga Khemis, the Chief Adminidtrative Officer (CAO) Leru Andrew and the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Obongi Mr.Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka, the Secretary for gender based services Hon. Gasia Fatuma, and the honorable secretary for works and the technical services, Azubu Michael and that of production Jumbo.
It was held at the district chairperson’s office in Obongi district headquarters.
Mr Okwi disclosed to the meeting that ,post bank has resolved to build the first commercial bank in Obongi because of the request by the district leadership.
The district Chairperson however disclosed that the Obongi district council has already allocated land for post bank to build the bank.
RDC Hasaka Samuel in his speech appreciated post bank for such an initiative that will boost financial transactions to the residents who shall benefit in several ways.
He encouraged the business community, farmers and government employees to make the best use of Post bank by opening their accounts so that they do not have the burden of moving to other districts to access financial services.
Hasaka encorages other banking institutions to follow the good example of post bank by also building their bank branches in the district of Obongi to get closer to their customers.
