KARAMOJA: The first Karamojong police woman Ms.Akot Mary Grace has said she has been longing to meet president Museveni.
She told our reporter that she been blocked by some people she did not name from meeting the President of Uganda to help her trace the remain of her husband who was killed during Amin’s regime and also complains of being denied a medal.
According to her, in an interview with our reporter ,she has tried left and right to reach H.E the president to explain herself to the president but she has failed on several occasions. She joined the Uganda police force in 1970, becoming the first Karamojong police woman.
She retired in 2005 after serving in several departments which include; the criminal investigations departments in various distrcts among them include the following district; Entebbe, Gulu,Tororo, Busia and Kotido district among others.
She retired after clocking the then mandatory 55 years-old retirement age.
The husband of Akot Mary Grace was killed by former President Iddi Amin Dada. She has since remained a widow in Abim district at Orwamuge Town council,located in Karamoja sub-region.
The husband ,engineer Ambrose Ojok (RIP)who was among the first aircraft engineer and pilot ,was picked from his office two weeks after the murder of the late Anglican Archbishop Janan Luwum and killed by Amin.
The late engineer Ojok’s body has never been found up to now by his family members according to Akot.
According to Akot Mary Grace, when she joined the Uganda police force in 1970, they were only three Karamojong woman but the other fell out.
She says she was even recommended for a medal on national celebrations for Labor day held in Patongo Town council,Agago district on the 1st May,2019 but unfortunately, she was not invited for the function.
Akot Mary Grace now wants H.E the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni Kaguta to intervene in the matter and award her with a medal, compensate the family for the death of her husband killed by the former president ldi Amin Dada .
She also wants to actually be recognised by the government for her dilligence, nationalisim and patriotism role in the country. Akot now stays in Orwamuge town council, Abim district in Karamoja sub-region.
She is now survives with four grand children. The four children of widow Akot Grace are ;Esther Immaculate Ajwang,Pamela Anying and Ambrose Ojok among others .
She is now requesting for the possible intervention of H.E General Yoweri Kaguta,to help her family . She feel they can be secured and compensated as others.
