The penalties that come with smuggling are perhaps the least of worries for some notorious smugglers like Judith Kamwine of Isingiro.
Unfortunately, last Friday at 4:00am, Kamwine and her counterparts could not match the surveillance operations.
The driver of her goods in truck number UAR075 was intercepted with 192 bags of Kayera brown sugar. Each bag weighed 25 kilograms to 4.8 tones.
The goods were coming from Tanzania through the porous routes of Kasheshe Isingiro district.
URA wishes to retaliate its commitment to fighting smuggling of all sorts and liberating our country from engaging in illicit Trade.
For Kamwine, she risks forfeiting the truck of smuggled goods to the government.
“If you have a truck, be sure of the driver you are recruiting and guide them on what do and keep monitoring your truck,” Abel Kagumire the Commissioner Customs advised.
