Police in western Uganda’s Ntungamo district have launched an investigation after a man set fire to his house, killing his wife and two grandchildren.
The suspect has been identified as 66-year-old Tibenderana, a resident of Katunguru cell in Katomi ward of Nyamunuka town council in Ntungamo district.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at 11:00 PM when Tibenderana returned from a bar and started accusing his wife, 58-year-old Kobusingye Joventa, of denying him to sell their remaining land.
Wife and Two Grandchildren Die in Fire
In the process, he obtained a matchbox and torched the house using petrol, killing his wife and two grandchildren – 6-year-old Nabilyo Amina and 8-year-old Nangobi Hassanat. A third child, 7-year-old Nanteza Linet, sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby clinic for treatment.
Suspect Had Previously Threatened Wife
According to an eyewitness, Tibenderana had tried to hack his wife on Saturday but she managed to escape unharmed until the fatal arson attack on Wednesday night.
Investigation Underway as Suspect Remains in Custody
By the time of this report, Tibenderana was in police custody and investigations had begun to determine the cause of the fire.
