Police in Luwero district are hunting for a 30-year-old woman, Catherine Asaba who allegedly killed her 47-year-old husband, Sgt Cosma Oriema, a soldier of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF).
The incident occurred in Kizito Zone, Luwero town council on Friday. Oriema was attached to Makenke barracks in Mbarara, western Uganda. Sam Twiineamazima, the acting Savannah Regional police spokesperson says that the deceased had a long-term domestic misunderstanding with his wife, and, according to neighbours, they fought quite often but this time around, she used a breakable plate to hit him on the head, an act that ended his life in an instant.
Cases of homicide remain an issue in the Savannah region which comprises Luwero, Nakaseke and Nakasongola districts. Just last month, police in Luwero district arrested a woman identified as Gift Namyalo for allegedly killing her co-wife’s baby. The deceased was identified as Moreen Nakirijja, a daughter of Betty Nakiyimba, a resident of Kabembe village in Makulubita sub-county.
In late July this year, police in Luwero launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspected suicide by hanging of 36-year-old Denis Ssuuna at Kawangalo village in Makulubita sub-county. Police explained that preliminary findings suggested that the deceased, had a quarrel with his wife before ending his life.
Twiineamazima stated that the deceased attempted to commit suicide, but his wife initially rescued him by removing the rope. Tragically, he managed to find another rope and took his own life moments later.
