In turn of events, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has amended the charge sheet and introduced new charges against the three remanded Members of Parliament.
The jailed MPs had reported back before the Anti-Corruption Court for the DPP to make a response in their bail application but prosecution led by Edward Muhumuza said they would not proceed with the bail application as it has been overtaken by events.
According to the amended charge sheet, DPP has included the offences of money laundering, receiving stolen property, stealing by agency and Abuse of office against MPs Michael Mawanda, Wamakuyu, Paul Akamba, lawyer Kaitankonko and Leonard Kavundira, a commissioner in the Ministry of Trade.
The amendments also see the Permanent Secretary in the Trade Ministry Geraldine Ssali Busulwa added on the charge sheet as accused number 6.
Ssali who is reportedly still at CID headquarters Kibuli for interrogations is facing charges of Abuse of office, Causing Financial Loss and Conspiracy to defraud.
All the above charges stem from the diversion of billions of money that was meant to compensate war victims through their cooperative unions.
