A man accused of killing his brother in a tragic disagreement over how to mete out meat from a relative’s funeral has been lynched by a mob in the Teso North area of Busia, days after the incident.
According to the Daily Nation, 57-year-old James Ocharo was smoked out of his hideout on Monday night by irate villagers who were baying for his blood.
He was accused of stabbing his younger brother, Joseph Ojuma, in the belly and killing him on the spot because they could not agree on who would take the liver of the animal slaughtered for the burial.
Following the incident, he is said to have fled, disappearing into a nearby sugarcane plantation, where neighbours claim he lay in wait, armed with crude weapons and threatening to kill anyone who approached.
Neighbours who first saw him at his hideout said he charged at them and threatened to kill them.
They notified the rest of the village, resulting in a manhunt in which the suspect was apprehended and lynched.
Busia County Police Commander Ahmed Abdille confirmed the incident and faulted the locals for taking the law into their own hands.
