Six children lost their lives in a house fire in Kajjansi, Uganda. The fire, which engulfed the residence of Bakita Ayang, a South Sudanese national residing in Mulanda B, Kisubi, was reported at approximately 1 am.
Upon receiving a distress call, officers from the Kisubi Police Station, led by the Officer in Charge, rushed to the scene alongside firefighters from Entebbe Police Division. Despite the swift response and the concerted efforts by community members to rescue the trapped children, aged between 2 and 16, the inferno proved relentless. Tragically, it claimed their lives before help could reach them.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, revealed that preliminary investigations indicate that the fire originated from an electronic kettle left unattended in the sitting room, connected to a socket. However, he added that further inquiries will be conducted to fully understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
As investigations into the fire continue, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of exercising caution and vigilance, particularly regarding fire safety measures within homes. Prevention remains paramount in averting such devastating tragedies in the future.
