The police in Luwero district are detaining one of the Enumerators trained for this 2024 National Housing and Population Census after reporting that unknown people broke into this suspect’s rented house and stole all his census gadgets Spyreports has details.
Uganda Bureau of Statistics UBOS provided computer tablets to enumerators for the 20242025 census exercise.
The arrested Enumerator is a student at Bukarasa Agricultural College in Luwero and a resident of Wobulenzi Town Council.
Richard Ssimbwa the Luwero LC3 Chairperson said, the suspect was supposed to enumerate residents of Kikube village in the same sub-county but that losing his gadget was an act of negligence.
The District police Commander John Ojokuna has confirmed the arrest of the student adding that the tablet is a government property and no one should joke with it.
“He claims that the thieves broke into his house and stole phones and tablets but the security of these tablets and other census materials, the liability fully is with the ones in possession”. DPC Ojokuna
However, Luwero Resident District Commissioner Richard Bwabye Ntulume has assured Kikube village respondents that they will not miss enumeration since UBOS has trained enough reserve Enumerators who are ready to work in situations like this.
Luwero has trained 1,532 enumerators,192 supervisors, and over 36 reserve enumerators for backup.
