Kampala, Uganda: Hajjat Sharifah Buzeki, KCCA Executive Director, has congratulated Kawempe Division for emerging overall winners of the 2025 Weyonje Sanitation Challenge, praising Rubaga, Central, Nakawa, and Makindye divisions for their commitment and pride in the competition.
Speaking at the awards ceremony at Kitante Primary School, Buzeki emphasized the crucial role of city cleaners, stating, “Today in Kampala, we paused to honour our city cleaners – the unsung heroes who rise before dawn to sweep our streets, clear our drainage and protect public health. A capital city runs on their labour, and they deserve our respect.”
Buzeki confirmed that payments for November and December have been made to the sanitation workers, adding that plans are underway to increase sanitation staff in the next financial year and provide protective equipment through their SACCOs.
“We appreciate Hon. Hajjat Minsa, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Senior Presidential Advisor on Political Mobilisation Moses Byaruhanga, Head of Strategic Commission Col. Allan Kitanda, Mayor Central Division, and other division chairpersons, as well as partners City Oil, Piping Water, and Coca-Cola, for standing with our sanitation workers,” she said.
She reiterated that clean, dignified cities are built by people, and the event was a mark to honouring those who work tirelessly to keep Kampala clean.
