Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga Dies at 80 from Cardiac Arrest in India

Kerala, India: Raila Odinga, Kenya’s former prime minister from 2008 to 2013 and a five-time presidential candidate, died on October 15, 2025, at age 80 from cardiac arrest during a morning walk in Koothattukulam, Kerala, India.

He was receiving Ayurvedic treatment at an eye hospital following a recent minor stroke in Kenya.

Odinga, known as a key architect of Kenya’s democracy, had arrived in India on October 4 with his daughter and physician, and despite immediate medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at a nearby facility.
