Kampala, Uganda: Commissioner of the State  House’s National Secretariat for Patriotism Corps, Madam Hellen Seku, has stressed the importance of patriotism in today’s society. Speaking at the Rotary Walk for Peace and Road Safety organized under the theme ‘Educate for Peace, Drive with Care’, Seku noted that patriotism is about loving one’s country, oneself, and one’s neighbors.

“Patriotism is about the love. Loving our country, loving ourselves, loving our neighbors, and loving your books you use in school,” Seku said. She highlighted the significance of education in promoting peace and patriotism, emphasizing that teachers play a crucial role in guiding students to the right path.

Seku encouraged students to abstain from early sex, drug abuse, and other harmful behaviors, stressing that these actions can lead to unwanted pregnancies, poverty, and HIV. She urged young people to focus on their education and to prioritize their well-being.

The Commissioner also observed the importance of national interest, encouraging citizens to promote unity and diversity. “We should stop these things of saying, I am a Muganda, I am a Mnyankore, I am this. No. We are for national interest, not identity,” Seku said.

Seku expressed her admiration for Rotary’s work in promoting peace and education, and encouraged continued collaboration between the two organizations.

She never concluded her remarks without emphasizing the importance of loving God and being prayerful, citing the Bible’s teachings on the fear of God and the importance of seeking guidance from a higher power.

Seku also demonstrated her passion for promoting patriotism and national development, and encouraged citizens to work together towards for the Uganda we desire.
