Masaka Chief Magistrate Summons Lwengo CAO Lujumwa Nathan Over Failure to Appear in Court on Concealment of Records Case

The Chief Magistrate’s Court of Masaka has issued a new summons to Lujumwa Nathan, the Chief Administrative Officer of Lwengo district, requiring him to appear in court on April 22, 2025.

This comes after Lujumwa Nathan failed to appear in court today April 14, 2025, to answer charges of concealing records contrary to Section 45(b) of the Access to Information Act, Cap. 95.

A private prosecution led by Volunteer Uganda Extra Ltd accused him of concealing records, an offense with significant penalties under Ugandan law.

Lujumwa Nathan’s failure to appear in court may result in serious consequences, including a bench warrant for his arrest, additional charges, and fines and penalties.

If the court issues a bench warrant, law enforcement can apprehend him and bring him before the court.

The court’s decision to issue a new summons highlights the importance of Lujumwa Nathan’s appearance in court to answer the charges against him. The outcome of this case, Masaka Criminal Case No. 3.7.7. of 2025, will likely have significant implications for enforcing the Access to Information Act in Uganda.
