Kampala, Uganda: Makerere University has officially commenced its search for individuals to fill the positions of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration). This development marks a significant milestone in the university’s efforts to strengthen its leadership and governance structures.
The position of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration) has been vacant since 2020, while the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) position is also set to be substantively filled. The university’s Council has deemed it necessary to fill these positions, prompting the establishment of a search committee.
To ensure a rigorous and objective selection process, the University Senate constituted two search committees on February 26th, 2025 one for each of the vacant positions. These committees have been tasked with identifying suitable candidates and will be required to report back to the Senate within two months. The Senate will then forward three recommended names to the Council for final consideration.
The entire process is expected to be completed within three months, marking a significant step towards enhancing the university’s academic and administrative leadership. The new Deputy Vice Chancellors will play a crucial role in shaping the university’s strategic direction and ensuring its continued excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement.
