Soroti, Uganda:Â Tubur Secondary School in Soroti district is gearing up to receive its new intake of Senior One students, following the successful completion of the selection and placement exercise. According to Akori Michael, the head teacher of the school, everything is in place to ensure a smooth transition for the new students.
“We are very ready to receive the Senior Ones,” Michael said. “We have already organized and made arrangements for their reception. Our team of teachers is waiting for the list of selected students, and once we receive it, we will display it and issue admission forms to the successful students.”
As the school prepares to welcome its new students, it is also making progress with the implementation of the new curriculum. The first batch of Senior Four students who started with the new curriculum has already sat for their examinations, and the school is now preparing for the Senior Five curriculum rollout.
“The new curriculum is progressing very well,” Michael said. “We have already sent continuous assessments to the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB), which contribute 20% of the students’ examination scores. We are also receiving information from the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) is preparing to roll out the Senior Five curriculum.”
Michael assured that the school has received materials prepared by NCDC and is ready to implement the new curriculum. He also noted that the combination of subjects for selection will remain the same, and the exercise will continue with the program of the new curriculum.
“We started this program a long time ago, and it’s not something new,” Michael said. “We are only continuing with the program, and it will not affect the level of arrangement. We are ready to continue with the new curriculum and ensure that our students receive the best education possible.”
